Birthday soirees are hardly the greenest events around what with paper plates, streamers, balloons and goodie bags full of dollar store treasures whose life span is severely limited.  And if you choose to go green(er), can it be done so that your party’s remembered fondly rather than as crunchy granola? Local company Green Planet Parties thinks so.

Recently launched, Green Planet Parties offers goodie bag loot, tableware, and decorations that are more eco-friendly. Their site is also a great resource for easy ideas and tips for greening your event while keeping it fun.

If you’re looking for inspiration for goodie bags for the over three set (and frankly who isn’t?) you’ll want to check out the swag at Green Planet Parties. They have lots of great finds for boys, including the Endangered Species Tile Necklaces. These cool finds feature an endangered beastie such as a shark or a lion on the front, and the back can be personalized with an initial or a name. The camouflage aprons and headbands are also popular with boys. For girls there are pretty keepsake tile necklaces that can also be personalized with names or initials, books from Little Humbugs and lots, lots more. Whatever you choose, these are party favours that won’t end up in the trash two days post-soiree, and that’s got to be more sustainable.

You’ll also find lots of loot for the zero to threes and the over sevens.

And if you want to get everybody buzzing when you dish out the birthday cake, check out their Earthen line of dinner plates and bowls. Biodegradable and compostable, they’re made of dried palm leaves and they’re pesticide, colour, wax and dye-free.

Now that’s not something you’ll come across at every party on your fall circuit. . .
