If you’re the sort of mama who whips up fancy frocks for her babe or turns a tiny jean jacket into a work of art with a few embellishments, then you can stop reading now. If, however, you’ve got a bit of sewing under your belt and have always hankered to make one-of-a-kind clothes for your little one, but you’re not sure how to get started then do we have a class for you.

This fall Heather Young, the local designer behind Dust clothing and now Babydust is teaching Sewing and Fabric Painting for Babies and Toddlers at Gladstone Secondary courtesy of the Vancouver School Board.

Over six sessions Young will show you how to choose appropriate patterns and the best way to turn your idea into an adorable outfit for your little one. You’ll also learn the art of fabric painting, allowing you to further customize your bound-to-be fabulous creations.

So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to pull out a needle and thread and invest in some super-cute fabric, here’s your chance. Registration has already begun, so visit www.continuinged.ca to book your spot. You’ll find it under the Sewing and Fabric Arts subcategory in Career and Personal Development (Music to Writing).

And we won’t be surprised when your first collection debuts to great fanfare on Etsy for Spring 09.

RE: August contest … am I doing this right?! I checked out the Dandelion Kids website and am eyeing the “Skuut Bike”! With three little boys, I know it would get a lot of use at our house!!

I offer sewing lessons for kids (adults too!) in my home studio in New Westminster, BC. Machines and all equipment provided.

Coming soon: Stitch & Bitch! A drop in event for a nominal fee. Bring your project, use my machines and equipment and I’ll help you if you need it! Other than that, meet other people and have a fun sewing night out!
