Creative Soule
What if we told you it was easy to have more fun with fewer toys, make your holidays homemade, and turn both you and your kids onto the wonders of nature all while connecting as a family? Well, thanks to Amanda Blake Soule’s The Creative Family: How to Encourage Imagination and Nurture Family Connections, all that’s possible. And the best part is that Soule’s style is not holier than thou, which means her ideas are realistic and inspiring rather than guilt-inducing.
You may recognize Soule’s name from her popular SouleMama blog which focuses on her family’s thrifting, crafting and parenting adventures. Soule had always enjoyed being crafty, but after the birth of her first child creating became essential to her everyday life. One of the premises of The Creative Family is that children often awaken creativity in their parents – and indeed we’ve seen this happen time and again – and Soule has definitely awakened our creativity with her book.
Luckily you don’t need to be particularly crafty (thank goodness!) to take advantage of Soule’s ideas. Whether you decide to indulge in family drawing time, play parlour games, or encourage your budding young photographer, The Creative Family offers something for every skill set. You can dip into it here and there or take every word to heart, but either way we promise it’ll inspire both your creativity and your parenting.
And no pressure, but we’ll be expecting some pretty darn fabulous homemade gifts this holiday season.

Love that you’ve made a post regarding this book. I just bought it a few weeks ago and am recommending it to every family I know. It’s great, filled with ideas on how to get creative as a family. Definitely the primer we needed to get started.
