Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival
August 21st – August 24th, 10 am – 5 pm, 1490 Johnston Street, Granville Island
There’ll be lots of maritime fun including family boat building and sea shanty singing, but kids will be drawn to the shed behind the Kids’ Market and the Cats Meow where they can design, build and launch their own ships each day from 11 am – 4 pm: www.vancouverwoodenboat.com

Kerrisdale Days
August 21st – 23rd, Noon – 4 pm, West 41st between Maple & Larch Streets
This three day event celebrating Kerrisdale’s birthday peaks on Saturday with balloons, face painting, horse & carriage rides, live music, potential pony rides (weather permitting), and, of course, cake at 3 pm at Yew St and West 41st: www.kerrisdalevillage.com

BC’s 150 at the Farmer’s Markets
August 23rd & 24th, Trout Lake Market & Kitsilano Farmer’s Market
On Saturday at the Trout Lake Market, and Sunday at the Kitsilano Market you can celebrate all things tomato with tomato facts, tomatoes to taste and more. Plus on Saturday at Trout Lake the Goat’s Pride Dairy will be featuring goat milking, which you can try courtesy of their faux goat: www.eatlocal.org

Ismaili Walk for Women 2008
August 24th, 11:00 am – 3:30 pm, Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park
The walk itself will raise awareness and funds for the Women’s Health Research Institute at the BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, and the rest of the day provides lots of family fun including a children’s soccer tournament, kids activities including face painting, a bouncy castle, and live music as well as an afternoon-long bbq featuring traditional Middle Eastern specialties: www.ismailiwalk.bcwomensfoundation.org

HSBC VanDusen Family Program: Animal Safari

Wild Nights Lantern Festival
August 22nd, 7 pm – 10 pm, Edgemont Village, North Vancouver
If you’re going to keep the kids up late a lantern festival is the perfect excuse. We’d suggest starting with dinner at Baby Eats, then partaking of the lantern workshop at 7pm, and finish by dancing along in celebration with stilt walkers, live musicians and more. Bowfest & Run for the Ferry
August 23rd, Run for the Ferry at 8:15 am & Bowfest starts with a parade after the 10:35 ferry leaves the island, Bowen Island
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to visit Bowen this summer here it is. Rivermania
August 24th – September 28th, Province-wide
Starting in Prince George this Sunday in honour of BC’s 150th year is Rivermania, a symbolic journey marking the 200th anniversary of Simon Fraser’s exploration of the Fraser River. There are celebrations at communities all along the river including Quesnel, Williams Lake, Mission, Abbotsford and heaps more. It all culminates at Steveston on September 28th at BC River’s Day.
