More safe sipping

We know you’re always on the lookout for safer sipping options, and we’ve got some new ones to add to our existing list. But first a quick recap on why you want to look for BPA-free bottles and cups. BPA, or Bisphenol-A, is found in polycarbonate plastic and can leach into the contents of bottles and sippy cups. It’s a known developmental, neural and reproductive toxicant so we’ve picked options that are BPA-free in all their components, not just the main body.

Vite Single Wall Stainless Steel Bottles (440 ml, $11.99)
We haven’t had a chance to test this locally-designed new line yet, but we like that it fits in most car-seat beverage holders, easily clips onto a pack, and has an easy-grip design for kids. Check out their adult options as well: Bilt

Aqua Bottle by iPlay (350 ml, $8.95)
These are dishwasher-safe, BPA and PVC fun plastic bottles with a straw top and sliding lid that come in lots of fun colours. But PVC and BPA-free can come at a cost, these bottles can be on the more fragile side, though when closed they definitely don’t leak: iPlay

Watergeeks Stainless Steel Water Bottles (600 ml, $9.99)
We love these stainless steel bottles for ourselves, in part because of the great price, and in part because Watergeeks is a Kelowna-based company offering a well-priced, local alternative to the Klean Kanteen. And rumour has it they’ll soon be offering a sippy cup option: Watergeeks Laboratories

Laken Water Bottles (750 ml, $23.00)
Similar to Sigg bottles, but apparently even better, these made-in-Spain aluminum water bottles are lined with an FDA-approved inner coating that prevents liquids from coming into contact with the aluminum. We’re also quite taken with the surrealistic patterns on their Jr Bottles: Laken

Steadyco’s Steadycup (177 ml, $4.99)
Designed to wean children from the bottle to the cup and reduce the risk of tooth decay, this award-winning, easily-stackable, non-toxic, dishwasher-safe cup is also, like all products from Steadyco, entirely BPA and phthalate-free: Steadyco

And just in case you hadn’t heard, Klean Kanteens now come in colours, so look for them at your favourite Klean Kanteen retailer.

Please note: For each of these options the first link is where you can find it locally online, the second link leads to more info on the product and company. And no, we didn’t forget about Foogo, find our review here. And just a quick update, we prefer their straw bottle to their sippy cup, it doesn’t leak and is easier to assemble.

  2. Hi

I just bought the Vite 440 ml bottle from MEC for just under $9.00 and they are great. You have to rinse them well but they are a great size and at $9.00 you are not heart broken when you lovable child loose it.

  3. Two queries –

Where can I purchase the largest Klean Kanteen bottle (apart from online)

    and

Best Vancouver Westside brunch spots (with a toddler!)

    Thanks!
