Getting there is half the fun
Filed Under Stuff, Tips & Tricks | July 16, 2008
If you are hitting the road this summer, remember that as of July 1st booster seats are mandatory for all children under nine-years-old or 145 cm high. For later model cars (2002 and beyond) we love the sleek lines, fun patterns and easy in and out of the Clek Olli Booster Seat. We’re also fans of the Britax Frontier which works with pre and post-latch car models.
Speaking of road safety, while travelling it’s important to take a break and stop every two hours to let your kids get some of their beans out. Kids overheat much faster than we do, so don’t leave them unattended in the car, even for short periods of time. Sunshades are great for when you’re driving during the heat of the day. And stocking up with a first aid kit, drinks, and non-sticky snacks (cheese, apple slices and crackers fit the bill) will make everyone’s trip more fun. Another tip that’s saved our bacon, is hitting the dollar store and stocking up on age-appropriate goodies you can dole out once an hour to keep everyone happy. But if your goal is to buy yourself some peace and quiet, don’t choose items that you’ll need to assemble or have small parts that will get lost in the black hole that’s your backseat.
And here’s a sobering fact you’ll want to keep in mind. Studies show that drivers involved in serious crashes are more likely to have been distracted by the occupants of their car than talking on their cellphone. So if things are getting out of hand in your automobile, it’s probably time to pull over and give everyone a break!
