What to do, what to do?

It’s a weekend of festivals – celebrate blues music, folk music, fusion and the Fraser River. Plus you can get deals on clothes, cookbooks and antiques. And in honour of road trip week here at yoyomam there are lots of events worth driving in (or out) of town for.
Getting there is half the fun

If you are hitting the road this summer, remember that as of July 1st booster seats are mandatory for all children under nine-years-old or 145 cm high. For later model cars (2002 and beyond) we love the sleek lines, fun patterns and easy in and out of the Clek Olli Booster Seat. We’re also fans of the Britax Frontier which works with pre and post-latch car models.
Bug off
Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | July 15, 2008
Summer road trips often seem to take us to the great outdoors, places where we can reconnect with nature, cook over open fires and sleep under the stars. They also often seem to take us to places where bugs are more plentiful. But bug spray, like sunscreen, isn’t always full of good things.
Backseat bag

It’s officially road trip week here at yoyomama (well, almost all week anyhow) and it started early when we wrote about kids’ CDs that the whole family could enjoy last Friday. This week, in the same vein of making life on the road with little ones easier, we’re tackling keeping your backseat tidy – or tidier – as we never knew just how messy a car could get ’til we had kids. While we accept the fact that we will be finding Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies in cracks and crevices of the car for years to come, we do like to impose some order on the backseat chaos whenever possible. Which is why we couldn’t resist Sigikid’s car organizers.
On the road again

Almost all of next week is officially road trip week here at yoyomama, and road trip memories are in large part defined by the soundtrack of your journey. So in case you’re heading out on the highway this weekend, we have a few suggestions for kids’ CDs that we think the whole family will enjoy, and next week we’ll be talking keeping the car organized, keeping the bugs away and more.

Last week’s weekend guide had lots of ongoing events, just in case you want to revisit it. And July is Parks month, so check out www.julyisparksmonth.ca for events all around the province. As for this week’s weekend guide, it absolutely jam packed with fun all around town.
Ready for independence

Over the last few months local counselor Christine Kutzner has been giving us a reality check by letting us know what’s developmentally reasonable to expect from kids of different ages. She started with two-year-olds, moved on to three-year-olds and this month she wraps it all up talking about four and five-year-olds, which is an age of growing independence.
Biodegradable bottoms

Diapers are a contentious issue and everyone makes the choice that works best for their family and their situation. But whether you only use disposables, mix and match disposables with reusables or only need the occasional disposable, we think you’ll be intrigued by Nature Babycare diapers.
Families and money

In the best of all possible worlds, we support the people we love, they support us, and there is enough money to support everyone. In the real world there are dirty diapers, roofs that leak and brakes that need fixing and we need all the support we can get. The good news is that you can create that support by building healthy relationships with your partner, your kids and your money. Find out how (it’s easier than you may think) in this month’s column from Sheila Walkington.
You say tomatoes, we say shoes

It has been pointed out from time to time that we tend to focus on online stores to the detriment of real brick and mortar establishments. And we have to admit, given that we spend a bit too much time on the computer yoyo-ing, that that’s probably a pretty accurate assessment. So we’re thrilled we’ve finally gotten out of the house long enough to discover a couple of real-world finds we want to share with you, and the first is the new branch of Tomatoes Children’s Footwear.
