It’s a weekend of festivals – celebrate blues music, folk music, fusion and the Fraser River. Plus you can get deals on clothes, cookbooks and antiques. And in honour of road trip week here at yoyomam there are lots of events worth driving in (or out) of town for.

In Your Own Way End of Season Sale
July 17th, 6 pm – 9 pm, 2043 Graveley Street
It may seem like an odd time of year to be stocking up on Merino wool basics, but these lightweight tees, camis and yoga pants keep you cool in summer and warm in winter and they’re all 50% of their regular price. Vancouver Folk Fest
July 18th – 20th, Jericho Park Park
In addition to folk musicians from the world over, there is also an entire Little Folks Village which include a Creation Station courtesy of the Kids Market, and lots of great performers just for kids: www.thefestival.bc.ca

West Point Grey Sandcastle Competition
July 18th, 8 am, Jericho, Locarno & Spanish Banks beaches
Over 1000 competitors will be building their best sand creations this Friday. And the Port’s Community Relations team will be there with Salty Sam and a whole tent full of kids’ activities.

Cookbook Swap Meet at Trout Lake Farmer’s Market
July 19th, 9 am – 2 pm, Trout Lake Community Centre Parking Lot
Trade in your cookbooks for new (to you) ones, or buy new and used books from Barbara-Jo’s Book to Cooks, and meet local chefs Christian Caudreault, Star Spilos and Jeng Suratin Rianpracha. It’s a (local) foodie paradise: www.eatlocal.org

Rockin’ in the Park

The Gathering Place Annual Block Party

Creatures of the Not-So-Deep
July 19th, 10 am – 2 pm, Belcarra Regional Park
