Shopaholic and shop
Brand spanking new, the online boutique Ashley York was born when Bowen Island mama, Tia McHale, an admitted shopaholic, couldn’t find, locally, the uniquely chic items she wanted for her two kids. Rather than lament the lack of availability, McHale decided to do something about it and set about creating Ashley York, which focuses on baby and kids’ products that are handcrafted, fair trade, child safe, environmentally conscious and hard-to-find in Canada

Dust up
Local fashionista fans of Heather Young’s Dust line have only had access to a small capsule collection since Young had a baby almost a year and a half ago. But take heart, you can satisfy your cravings with her new Baby Dust line which is inspired by European kid fashion, vintage patterns and her own style sensibilities – all of which means lots of quality and no ruffles, at least not for kids…
Doting on dad

Because dads are notoriously difficult to buy for, we thought they would be equally hard to craft for. So we went to Keri from Craft Caravan for ideas, and actually it turns out that some of dad’s favourite things can lead to great Father’s Day craft projects. Natural play, natural food, naturally fun
Filed Under Going Green, Places | June 6, 2008
Imagine if there was a place you could take your child where the food was tasty and healthy, focusing on local and organic produce with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options? Imagine if that same place had a 1000 sq ft+ play area chock-a-block with great toys that maximize creativity in children, tax the earth as little as possible and were from companies that demonstrate ethical business practices? Well, that place now exists in the Lynn Valley Village in North Van and it’s called Babyeats.

In response to your feedback we’re expanding our repertoire. Starting this week each weekend guide will have a new section called “Farther Afield”. This will follow the Vancouver event listings with listings that are…well, farther afield. It will make our weekend guide a little longer, and while we do aim for brevity we’re hoping it’ll be easy to scroll down and find what you’re looking for! And we hope the weather’s fine this weekend, because there are heaps of community events to partake of.
Happy Birthday to us!
A year ago today we launched with our first official email sent to a few select friends. Well, we’ve come a long way, baby – we send our emails out to a lot more than those few friends for example – and so we hope you’ll indulge us on our birthday and let us share with you a little bit about yoyomama and what makes us tick…
