Freedom dining

Do you ever miss your wining and dining pre-kid days? While we love kid-friendly restaurants, we can hardly join in office cooler chit chat about Vancouver’s trendiest eateries when organic mac ‘n cheese is the most exotic item we’ve ordered in ages. ‘Til now that is.
Chambar, yup, the cross-town hot spot known for their mussels, their chef and their numerous awards, has just introduced Freedom Nights, which while hardly free, do free you up to do some serious dining without having to babysitter-hunt. And, your kids will have some serious fun. In fact, this is another one of those ideas that makes so much sense that it’s a wonder no one’s put it into practice before.
Every Thursday night during the summer you can drop your kids off at a party at Medina Café (which is right next door) where they’ll be fed a yummy dinner all of their own (courtesy of Chambar) including Medina’s famous waffles, dressed up, allowed to dance around and play. You meanwhile can relax next door and enjoy an entire, adult meal uninterrupted.
Because we know you’ll worry more about what kids are up to than your own meal, rest assured. Professional nannies from Nannies on Call will be watching over your little ones, Ask Your Fairy will be on hand creating a festive atmosphere with costumes and face painting, while the toys are courtesy of Dandelion Kids.
As you know, we like to check-out everything we cover before we recommend it, but because Freedom Nights are for kids from three to seven, and we’ve got some that don’t quite reach that marker, we haven’t partaken (yet). We have put Chambar to the test however, and heartily approve. The cost per child is $30, and because space is limited to 18 kids, reservations are required via email or phone: 604.879.7119. Your dinner will start at 6:00 pm sharp, but Medina’s ready for action by 5:30 if you want to spend some time getting your tots settled before you tuck in.

Wow. I only wish I was in Vancouver so I could take advantage of this.
