Big daddy

This Sunday the 15th is Father’s Day and just in case you don’t have something up your sleeve yet, we’ve got a few locally-sourced ideas for you. Tomorrow we’ll have some Father’s Day crafts you can create with your little ones:
Father & Kid Pirate Hats from Melonhead Knitwear
Funky, fun and little irreverent, Melonhead Knitwear’s matching pirate hats for father and child allow you to outfit two generations of hipsters in these lovely locally-made creations. Find hats via the Melonhead blog and you’ll also find Carmen peddling her wares at the Trout Lake Farmer’s Market this Saturday and the Whistler Farmer’s Market this Sunday
Gents by Goober Baby
If you chose a diaper bag that coordinates with your wardrobe better than his, then he’ll appreciate the Spare Change Gents from Goober Baby. It’s just the right size for some wipes and a diaper and it includes a change pad as well, plus it comes in manly dark chocolate corduroy. And since Goober Baby is a local company, their products are made in Canada. Available online, at Little Earth and other local retailers.
Hockey Stick 3 hook board from Homeworks etc.
Sure, this junior-sized hockey stick hook board (you’ll need to scroll down to see it) is designed for boys, but we know a few men who’d be happy to have one of these gracing their mud room or that sacred spot where they store their smelly hockey equipment. Homeworks creations come from local mum Jacqueline De’Ath, who started painting and creating wood products after the birth of her daughter in 2002. You can buy it online or click here for local retailers.
Knife Skills Class at Barbara Jo’s Books to Cooks
Whether dad’s just discovering his inner chef, or he’s already accomplished in the kitchen, he’ll appreciate the chance to add to his knife collection and hone his chopping skills (and so will you!). Barbara Jo’s Books to Cooks is offering their popular Knife Skills Class (again, you’ll need to scroll down to find it) on June 20th. Dad’ll get a skills update, a 21 cm Solicut chef’s knife and 10 cm paring knife, as well as tips on proper knife sharpening and care. And you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labours.
Note: there is heaps of great stuff out there for dads, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Whether you want to save or splurge, below are a few links to previous products, shops or family-friendly restaurants we’ve covered that may hit the spot for your Father’s day shopping or dining:
- Baby Eats
- Lavish & Lime
- H&M
- Winther Kangaroo Bike
- The Galley Patio & Grill at Jericho Beach
- Chocolate
- Thinksport Bottles

Loved the hockey stick! So cute! I just ordered it and, since it has three hooks, I am sure the three guys in my family (1 ‘Big Daddy’ & 2 small bambinos) will love it!
