National cake of Canada
If you’re attending or hosting a Canada Day event tomorrow and you want to make something that hits the right note for dessert, look no further than this easy-as-pie cake:
Canada Day Flag Cake*
Ingredients:
- A rectangular sheet cake
- 2 cups whipped cream
- 3 cups strawberries, halved lengthwise
Put it all together:
- Spread the whipped cream to cover the top and sides of the sheet cake.
- Arrange the strawberry halves (cut side down) to make a Canadian Flag with two side bars and maple leaf in the centre.
- Refrigerate the cake until ready to serve.
You can make this as easy or as involved as you’d like. If you’re going for easy, buy a sheet cake, pre-whipped cream and fresh, local strawberries. If you have more time and inclination you can make a cake from scratch, whip your own cream and pick your berries. We love berry picking time!
*Alas, we have no photo of the cake, but we have included an image of a maple leaf with today’s article to give you a bit of guidance.
