Baby Dust

Local fashionista fans of Heather Young’s Dust line have only had access to a small capsule collection since Young had a baby almost a year and a half ago. But take heart, you can satisfy your cravings with her new Babydust line which is inspired by European kid fashion, vintage patterns and her own style sensibilities – all of which means lots of quality and no ruffles, at least not for kids…

Despite new motherhood Young had no plans to design children’s clothes, but when the creative urge hit she went back to her studio and found she had lots of lovely fabrics, but not enough to make adult clothes and thus Babydust was born.

We’re smitten with her Linen Children’s Dress and her Silk Baby Butterfly Jacket, and we also love that much of her collection is unisex, which means the pieces will be treasured, passed down and handed along.

Befitting a line that came about quite by chance, her pieces range in size from newborn to age three, but not all pieces come in all sizes. Eugene Choo – yup, also a fashionista favourite that’s starting to carry some kids wear – carries the Babydust line, plus you’ll find some pieces on Etsy.

As for what the future holds, Dust has been scaled back for now and Young has plans for more Babydust outfits for fall, including coats. We can’t wait.
