Ashley York Boutique

Brand spanking new, the online boutique Ashley York was born when Bowen Island mama, Tia McHale, an admitted shopaholic, couldn’t find, locally, the uniquely chic items she wanted for her two kids. Rather than lament the lack of availability, McHale decided to do something about it and set about creating Ashley York.

With a focus on baby and kids’ products that are handcrafted, fair trade, child safe, environmentally conscious and hard-to-find in Canada, Ashley York is the kind of store that makes it hard for us to keep our resolve to tread lightly and not collect so much stuff.

Just a few of our favourite thing include Twinkle Cake’s Vanilla Cherry Blossom gateau, an Öko-Tex certified wool felt design kit that makes baking easy and virtually mess-free. There’s also the most incredible line of play houses – true splurges indeed – that have to be seen to be believed, and we’d snap up Roebuck Studio’s Chick Chair and Bunny Scooter in a heartbeat if we were in the furniture market.

You’ll also find local goodies include swanky blankies, bibs and burpies from Superfly Lullabies, a small collection of women’s clothing with more coming soon from celebrity fave Joe’s Denim and Ashley Watson handbags. And we can’t wait to see what their maternity section will hold.

Because Ashley York has just launched, they’re still working out some kinks, but because they’re local they’ll respond quickly if you come across any glitches. They’re also adding new products all the time, which is all the incentive we need to come back often and browse.

And strictly in the name of research we picked up a few things and the checkout process and shipping all went smoothly. As for our Visa bill, well, that’s another matter…
