Cloverdale Rodeo

Since it’s a long weekend we’re going a little farther out and about with some of our events, as hopefully you have a little more time to explore the city!

Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair
May 16th – 19th, Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Fairgrounds
As well as cowboys (and girls), you’ll find a fun country fair including 4H projects and animals, and the third annual BC Junior Talent Search for kids six and up. Kids will enjoy rocking out to live music from Neil Diamond impersonator, Nearly Neil and the Mop Tops, a Beatles tribute act on the outdoor stage. Chinatown Night Market
May 16th – September 7th, every Fri, Sat & Sun, 6:30 pm – 11:00 pm, Keefer Street between Main & Columbia Streets
This Friday the Night Market opens its doors for the season. This shopping extravaganza features Asian traditional handicraft, gifts and snacks, a street market and includes folk dancing, singing, magic shows, martial arts, lion dance, bands and more. Trout Lake Farmer’s Market Opens
May 17th, 9 am – 2 pm, 15th Avenue & Victoria Drive in the Parking Lot of Trout Lake Community Centre
Trout Lake is the first local farmer’s market to reopen for Spring, and it’s one of the biggest and oldest. If the weather’s as nice as predicted we suspect the market and park will be just packed: www.eatlocal.org/markets.html

Kitsilano Pool & Granville Island Waterpark
Opening May 17th

121st Anniversary of CPR Engine 374 (1887 – 2008)
May 18th, Noon – 4 pm, Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews
Once a year historic CPR engine #374 is brought out of retirement for a little steam and whistle action. This year her emergence will be accompanied by entertainment from renowned ukulele performer Ralph Shaw and the Little Mountain Brass band. World of Wood Bugs
May 18th, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm, VanDusen Botanical Gardens, 5251 Oak Street at 37th

May Day Parade & Festival at Fort Langley
May 17th – 19th, 10 am – 5 pm, 23433 Mavis Avenue, Fort Langley
The parade itself happens on the 19th, but there’ll be fun all weekend long at this National Historic Site. In addition to the regular guided tours just for kids, storytelling, blacksmithing and coopering, on the 19th everything starts with a pancake breakfast at 8 am, the parade at 11 am, and later a Strawberry Tea, May Pole Dance, amusement rides and carnival games: www.pc.gc.ca/fortlangley
