Vitala Naturally Enriched Milk

There’s a new milk in town and we think it’s all that it’s cracked up to be. Avalon Dairy, in conjunction with local company Nutrifood Solutions, has just introduced Vitala Milk which is naturally enriched with DHA Omega-3.

What’s so great about that? DHA Omega-3 – that’s the kind that comes from fish not flax – is the most effective source of Omega-3s, which are proven to support the normal development of the brain, eyes and nerves, especially in infants and young kids. North Americans in general don’t get enough of it, and because the fat in breast milk directly correlates to the fat in your diet, it’s recommended that pregnant and breastfeeding women get more DHA Omega-3s than your average adult.

So how do they get the DHA into their milk? Since one of the best natural sources is cold water fish, their cows are on a special diet that contains fish meal (which is also healthy for the cows, not just us). Sound fishy? It’s not, and nor is the milk. We’ve put it to the taste test and it tastes just like regular milk.

We also like the funky shaped reusable eco-friendly glass bottle it comes in. And while Vitala milk’s not organic, it is sourced locally, from family farms who meet Avalon’s high standards for natural, healthy and local. As for the cost, it’s priced between regular and organic milk, though closer to organic. A litre cost us $2.49.

So if you want to amp up the DHA Omega-3s you (or your kids) are getting why not try it? You’ll find it at stores where Avalon products are already sold.

How do the fish come to create this wonderful DHA? By eating Spirulina or Red Green Algae so you can skip the special milk & the fish (especially the worrisome build up of mercury in your system by eating to much of some fish) by eating Spirulina or by taking UDO’S DHA oil made from the same stuff.

They shouldn’t be feeding fish to cows. Period. Cows eat grass. Maybe grain. Can you say frankenfood?

The North American diet is clearly deficient in DHA Omega-3. This is important, especially for young children and the elderly to ensure proper brain, eye, and nerve development and maintenance, respectively. Feeding these local cows a small amount of tuna meal containing the DHA Omega-3 is a natural way to get this essential nutrient into our diets. The DHA is unaltered and is not subjected to purification and clarification processes that can have undesired results and can modify the fatty acids found in fish oil and other supplements.
