The Galley Patio & Grill

Now that spring appears to have well and truly sprung, the beach is getting busy again. The kids don’t even seem to care that it can still be a little nippy by the water, especially when it’s breezy, instead they’re barefoot and in the water before you can say, “At least roll up your pant legs.”

We’re partial to Jericho for our beach visits, in large part because The Galley Patio & Grill on the second floor of the Jericho Sailing Centre. Not only are the views fabulous, but the food’s good (so is the coffee) and their menu has lots of choices for kids. As for ambience, aside from the view it’s pretty bare bones, but when you have sandy wet kids, that’s not a bad thing.

This isn’t just a jumped up beach concession stand either, in fact their food is great. We’ve been doing some burger testing of late, and so far theirs (especially the salmon burger) are on our list of favourites. Admittedly, we’re not talking gourmet, but when you go for a burger and fries you might as well go for really good ones. It’s a great place to go on a dinner date with other friends with kids as well, in part because it means you can justify ordering their 18″ classic natchos.

Currently they’re operating on their winter hours, open from 11 am to sunset on Saturdays and Sundays, but starting on April 1st they’ll be open from 11 am to sunset seven days a week. And once their summer hours start – 9 am – 10 pm daily – we’ll be starting our day at the beach with their blueberry pancakes (and coffee).
