Let’s face it your initiation into parenting is a pretty big deal. And your birth story is pretty darn fascinating, at least to you, but all too many of us have probably experienced someone’s eyes glazing over as we recount all the gory details of our labor pains, crowning heads, huge incisions and football-sized hemorrhoids. But that’s not to say the story’s not worth preserving.
Boy bling

It’s a sad but true fact that boy’s clothes just don’t have the je ne sais quoi that girl’s clothes do, although that’s definitely starting to change. So when we find something fabulous and fun for boys we always like to share. And pudding’s tees fit the bill, plus they’ll totally take you back to the ’80s.

Start the weekend off right and celebrate Earth Hour by turning off your lights for one hour from 8 pm to 9 pm on the 29th. Then celebrate Spring with the sales, the flower fests, and a whole lot of sistahood. And if you drop by Portobello West be sure to stop by and say hello!
Mamas rock: Jill Earthy
Filed Under Mamas Rock | March 26, 2008
This month in Mamas Rock we’re profiling Jill Earthy, co-founder of momcafé. Earthy, mother of a two girls, had the idea for momcafé during her second maternity leave. She kept meeting mums who were feeling the dearth of stimulating, adult conversations. She teamed up with business partner Hilary Wooler and together they created momcafé where mums can come together, share ideas, chat and connect.
A (paper) place to call your own

Want some access to serious paper real estate for your tots from 18 months to seven-years-old? Look no farther than Paperpod’s Play House. Parents love the Play House because it’s environmentally-friendly – not only is it made from recycled corrugated cardboard, but the Canadian branch of Paperpod does all their manufacturing here to avoid overseas shipping. Kids love it because everyone needs some space they can call their own, plus they can let their interior decorator rage.

One of our goals here at yoyomama is to help make your lives less yoyo-like. And one huge facet of that is taking care of yourself. We’re pleased to introduce a new column on caring for your body. The physical stresses and strains of pregnancy and motherhood can throw everything out of whack, and we’ve got some ideas for putting it all back together again.
Yeah humbugs!
Filed Under Going Green, Stuff | March 18, 2008
We have an idea for a lovely Easter gift that’s egg-shaped and yet not chocolate. Created with the intent of helping kids engage with nature and the environment, Little Humbugs are half-child, half-butterfly eco-superheroes, buzzing around the countryside protecting wildlife. Their antennae help them hear for miles, their wings help them fly in and out of enchanting places, and they can talk to all the birds and animals in the forest.

We’ve decided to rerun our weekend guide so you can find out where to hop in your ‘hood. And we’ve got seriously long in order to stuff everything in – we couldn’t even cover the great events we found beyond Vancouver, sorry. Have a lovely long weekend!
