That loving feeling

Valentine’s Day means Valentine’s crafts, and since the whole theme of the day is centred on hearts and love, it’s the perfect time for the kids to make gifts from the heart for their friends and family. We went to the expert and asked Keri Zingle, of Craft Caravan, for some ideas for loving crafts to do with our little ones:
For Grandma and Grandpa, make a flower photo frame: Cut a favourite photo to the same size as a frozen juice lid. Cut five heart-shaped ‘petals’ out of pink or red construction paper, and glue around juice lid center (pointy sides in). Glue photo to juice lid, covering the petal points. Add a peel and stick magnet to make it fridge-worthy.
Brighten any office with a “heart-felt” pencil holder: Cover a tin can or frozen juice container with red felt. Adorn with felt hearts, glitter glue, ribbons, and lace. Safety tip: if using tin can, cover open edge with masking tape before starting craft.
For the traveler, make a portable photo collage: Cut family photos into heart shapes. Glue hearts onto a 2″ x 3″ card, and decorate it with crayons, felts, glitter glue and heart cut-outs. It’s perfect for carrying in a wallet or computer bag.
For the reader in the family, make a Valentine’s Day bookmark: Cut card stock or construction paper into a 6″ x 2″ rectangle. Decorate with hearts and a Valentine’s message, such as “You’re the Write Type”. Punch a hole at the top and loop string or yarn through to make a tassel. Glue two matching hearts together with the string or yarn between them to secure the tassel.
Make a ‘broken heart’ puzzle for a favourite aunt or uncle: Cut a large heart from card stock and write a special message. Then cut the heart into smaller puzzle pieces. When the puzzle’s reassembled they’ll discover their special Valentine’s message!
