Winterruption

This weekend is just packed! So we’ve listed lots of events and kept them short and sweet, but as always, we’ve included links and phone numbers so you can get more info. Frankly, we don’t how we’re going to pack Winterruption, a market, a book reading and a fair into one weekend, it’ll take a whole lot of chutzpah but we’re going to give it our best try.

BC Home & Garden Show
February 20th – 24th, BC Place Stadium, 777 Pacific Boulevard
This is a more mama-friendly than family-friendly event as you’ll find green cleaning tips, a whole section devoted to sustainability, and a mini Portobello West Market featuring kids’ vendors Mally Bibs and Milkshax (who’ll be having a mega sale!) as well as many other Portobello favourites. Winterruption at Granville Island
February 21st – 24th, various times and locations
Break up the winter blues wjth a Winterruption. Family-friendly events include a Winter Carnival, Circus Skills workshops and well as Circus Shows, face painting and more. Find out more: www.granvilleisland.com/en/node/520

Behind the Scenes at Maplewood Farm
February 21st & 23rd, 11 am – 1 pm, Maplewood Farm, 405 Seymour River Place, North Vancouver
Wear your wellies and dig right into farm life, collecting eggs, grooming animals and setting up feed. Your little farm hand will need to set aside about hour for these chores and register in advance (tickets are $10 for parent and child). 8th Annual Chutzpah Festival
February 23rd – March 2nd, various venues and locations
Showcasing local, national, Israeli and other artists, the Chutzpah Festival is mainly adult oriented, but their Move It workshops are great for the whole family, plus rumour has it that kids will enjoy the Balkan Beat Box and Dance All-Stars. Find out more: www.chutzpahfestival.com

Multicultural Health Fair 2008
February 23rd, 10 am – 4 pm, Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive
Aside from collecting health info and munching on healthy multicultural delicacies, you’ll want to check out the LEAP BC’s Children’s Corner, where they’ll be introducing kids to fun and healthy activities as part of the 2010 Legacies Now program. Find out more: www.amssa.org/healthfair2008/

Mount Pleasant Kids’ Day Market
February 24th, 1 pm – 3pm, 3161 Ontario Street

Lisa Cinar, author and illustrator of The Day It All Blew Away will be giving a reading of her delightfully quirky book.
