festival of lights

Things are lighting up around town this weekend:

Bright Nights in Stanley Park
November 30th, 2007 – January 3, 2008
The forest, train and Children’s Farmyard are transformed by over a million lights, decorations, displays and music. Plus you can sip on hot chocolate and munch on popcorn and beard Santa in his den at the train station. Donations and partial proceeds benefit the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. Click here for times, tickets and location.

A Spectacle of Lights in Steveston Village
December 7th & 8th, Bayview St & Moncton Street
Starting just before six on Friday night with an illuminated musical procession, tree-lighting, hay rides and late night shopping, there are festivities all day Saturday as well, including Santa’s arrival on a whale watching boat is heralded in by fiddles.

Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Gardens

December 7th – 31st, 4:30 – 9:00 pm every night (except December 25th), VanDusen Botanical Gardens, 5251 Oak Street (37th & Oak St.)
Every year VanDusen Gardens goes overboard on lights, including ones that dance, Santa, magic, music and more, and we love it. This year you may even be ‘accosted’ by Svend and Jens, their two Scandanavian Nisse (aka Christmas Elves). You’ll want a cup of hot chocolate or bag of roasted chestnuts to keep your hands warm, and on weekend nights you’ll also find a mobile Crêperie on site.

Hanukkah Party – Light up the Night – Light up the World
December 8th, 7:30 pm, Autumn Brook Gallery, 1545 W. 4th Avenue
This is a BYO kind of event, you can bring your own menorah and candles and a gift to exchange if you’d like. They’ll have live music, latkes, dreidels, and door prizes.

Christmas on Cambie
December 9th, Noon – 5 pm, Cambie Village (between 16th & 19th Avenue)
Okay, so it’s not lights exactly, but we figure the merchants on Cambie need all the support they can get, so pop on by for photos with Santa, live entertainment, ice carving demos, a kid’s craft fair and gingerbread workshop and more.

And if you want to go sale-ing, there are a couple of great kid stuff sales starting today:

Paul Frank, Small Paul & Loop Handbags
December 6th (12 pm – 7 pm), December 7th (12 pm – 7 pm) & December 8th (10 am – 4 pm), #204 – 343 Railway Street
You’ll find Paul Frank men’s, women’s & youth clothing, swimwear, sleepwear and accessories, as well as Small Paul gear for toddlers and babies. Plus, if you love Loop NYC as much as we do, you’ll want to check out their purses, bags and wallets. Thanks to I Love Sample Sales for the heads up. Note: cash only.

Factory Clearance Sale
December 6th, 4 pm – 9 pm, 3rd Floor, 205 Victoria Drive
You’ll get deals on Sizzle Motif, Constant, Fuselage for Men, and Dallas James Adventure Wear for Kids (which is great for the weather we’re having these days). You’ll find stuff for everyone from kids on up, including maternity gear.

And if you’ve still got time on your hands after all that then check out our updated craft fair listings.
