Nanoou Splash Dress

Local mamas spotting a gap in the market and deciding to fill it is one reason why there are so many great finds around town. The newest entry onto our list of handy online shopping destinations started just that way. West Van mum Shannon Augustus noticed Lotte Noldus Veng’s children at preschool because of their unique clothes. New to Canada from Denmark, Noldus Veng’s kids were kitted out in togs that couldn’t be found in Canada. Though neither had a background in fashion, Augustus and Noldus Veng teamed up to create trendytot.ca, introducing Scandinavian style to Vancouver.

Originally the two women chose lines they liked, exclusive-to-them labels like lollopard and BB+++, as well as hard-to-find lines like Katvig and Molo-Kids. But as they’ve grown they’ve also become more interested in the environmental impact of clothes, choosing manufacturers that are environmentally or socially conscious. Which is where their newest find, Nanoou, comes into play.

Danish based Nanoou’s clothes are 100% organic super-soft cotton with vibrant prints, and trendytot.ca is finding it a challenge to keep their dresses in stock. Well-priced (for organic clothes), at about $35, they layer well over leggings, tights and even jeans. We have our eye on the Splash dress.

Nanoou’s unisex velvet baby outfits would make perfect holiday gifts. We’re partial to Katvig’s Chess Skirt paired with their purple Soy Cashmere Polo Shirt for a party outfit for girls. For boys we’d combine Katvig’s brown Soy Cashmere Polo Shirt with cords from Molo-Kids. We just wish Katvig’s Midi Apple Blouse came in our size. . .

And if you’re partial to Scandinavian style you’ll also want to check out Canada’s first Marimekko Concept Store in Yaletown.
