What to do, what to do?

Whether you’re indoors or out, we’ve got a few weekend long events to keep you busy.
Light the Night
Saturday, October 13th, 5 pm, Ceperley Park, Stanley Park
This annual event raises funds to support researchers working on therapies and cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. A 5K walk with no fitness requirements except willing, everyone’s welcome. And if you raise $25+ you’ll get an illuminated balloon, which we know kids will love, just like they’ll love being out in the dark for an adventure. Granville Island’s Kids Market will be on site with fun, games and goodies for kids. Dogs (on leashes) and strollers welcome.
Vancouver Home & Interior Design Show
Thursday -Sunday, October 11th -14th, BC Place Stadium, Adults – $14, Children 7 – 16 – $5, Children 6 and under, free
We’re not sure how kid friendly most of this event is, though we know it’ll be dry. Definitely for kids (and kids at heart) is the PLAY:HOUSE featuring real-life playhouses built by local developers, architects and designers that will be auctioned off in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. ModernKid has also sponsored a collection of cardboard playhouses enlivened by our local art community. All we can say is, if you’re not handy, you may not want to expose your kids to this one! If you’re interested in a greener home you won’t want to miss BC Hydro’s Green Room while fashionista mamas will want to hit In the City featuring local designers, pampering from Blo and Pure Nail Bar and more.
UBC Apple Festival
Saturday & Sunday, October 13th & 14th, 11 am – 4 pm, UBC Botanical Gardens, 6804 SW Marine Drive
Thanksgiving may be over, but you can still celebrate the harvest at this fun family event. Not only will there be between 11,500 and 13,500 kg of apples sold, but there are over 60 varieties of apples on offer to both buy and try. In the Children’s Corner there’ll be games and face painting as well as apple pie, hot apple cider and more. Buskers will provide the soundtrack and don’t forget to take home a jug of BC organic apple juice.
It’s only October 11th, but there have already been a number of recalls this month. Kiddie mugs from Starbucks, wooden Thomas & Friends and Amazing Spider-Man furniture sets, and more. For all the details click here. For our piece on previous recalls click here or search “recalls” on yoyomama.ca, as we’ve added frequent updates on the site as they occur.

Hi,
I just came from the UBC Apple Festival and it was fantastic! Such a wonderful day for it too. I would have never known about it without Yoyomama, the “what to do what to do” section is something I look forward to every Thursday, thanks again Anne-Marie for creating such a great resource for us moms.
