Fresh really is best

We first discovered Fresh Is Best tortilla chips and salsa at the Kamloops Farmer’s Market.* Then we discovered the Fresh is Best store in Kamloops, which carries the full range of their products. A year or two after that we started seeing their products popping up in grocery stores around Vancouver including IGA, Save on Foods and Capers. And now? Vancouver’s very own Fresh is Best store opened on Broadway last week.

Why are we so excited? Well, once you’ve tried Fresh is Best’s Tortilla Chips you’ll never go back to any others, truly. They’re fresher, crunchier and just generally the best we’ve ever had. Their product range has grown to include an assortment of dips, hot sauce and taco shells. Most of their products are made daily and don’t contain additives or preservatives, so their shelf life is short, but their flavour is fabulous so it’s highly unlikely they’ll be wasting away in the fridge.

It’s a little worrisome that their Layer Dip which combines their Smokey Black Bean Dip, Guacamole, and Salsa with sour cream and cheddar cheese will now be available in Vancouver. We’re not sure our waistline can take it.

Are tortilla chips healthy? Hardly. Are they a mum-specific product? Not really. But we figure if we’re sometimes going to indulge ourselves and our kids, then we might as well indulge in the very best.

Oh my, yes. Fresh is Best guacamole is the only store-bought guacamole I’ve ever fallen in love with — usually it’s just kind of slimy and “meh”, but theirs is delicious. There are little-bitty pieces of lime in there! Yum yum yum. I bought it on the recommendation of a Capers cashier one day when I was checking out with chips & salsa, and now I pick it up every once in a while for a treat when I’m feeling too lazy to make my own (or when the avocados aren’t ripe enough to mash yet).
