What to do, what to do?

We love fall, it really does seem like the new year to us, and in keeping with the unofficial new year there are lots of new events to keep us busy this weekend. And, for once, the weather’s supposed to be fine.
4th Annual Davie Day
Saturday, September 8th, 11 am – 8 pm, Davie Village (Burrard to Broughton)
Celebrate downtown’s diversity and history all day. Be sure to stop by the Super Valu Kidzone where there are crafts to do, police and mascot Constable Chip from the West End Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre to meet, and a monster mural to paint. The Solar Powered Roadshow will be on hand as well.
Cars, Kids & Commercial Drive
Sunday, September 9th, Noon – 3 pm, Grandview Park
This back to school safety event for kids of three and up is put on annually by the Grandview Woodland Community Policing Centre. They cast a wide safety net (sorry, we couldn’t resist) covering stranger danger, pedestrian safety, internet safety, park safety and more. There’ll be police cars and police dogs on hand. And, of course, face painting…Call 604.717.2932 for more details.
Avalon Country Fair
Sunday, September 9th, 11 am – 5 pm, 5805 Wales Street
The Avalon Dairy Heritage Society is putting on their 3rd annual fair with great entertainment including Charlotte Diamond, tours of the dairy, a petting zoo, the Vancouver Fire Safety House, the BC Daily Foundation Milking Game and much, much more. It’s like visiting the farm without leaving the city.
Coho Festival
Sunday, September 9th, 9 am – 6 pm, Capilano River Regional Park & Ambleside Park
The annual Coho Festival is one the major environmental events on the North Shore. The day starts with a run at 9 am and a walk at 10 am that celebrate the community’s efforts in keeping the ecosystem of salmon, forests, rivers and community flourishing. Then head to Ambleside Park for a salmon barbeque, kid’s activities, entertainment and more.
Please note: the url for Evolved Parenting in yesterday’s email should have been: www.evolvedparenting.ca, sorry for leading you astray.
On September 4th, the very day we ran our piece on recalls, there was another one. It was Mattel’s third recall on products made in China in the last five weeks. This time Barbie accessories, GeoTrax and It’s a Big World products have been recalled, again because of lead paint. Like us, economists are saying don’t buy toys from China right now.
Congratulations to Nikiah Seeds of the Mama Goddess Birth Shop who won our August contest. Thanks to Random House, Nikia will be very busy reading Ecoholic, Healthy Mum, Happy Baby, Whining & Dining & Cock-a-Doodle Quack Quack.
