It’s a little world after all

Until recently, mums in the Hastings Sunrise neighborhood have had to go West to stock up on local lines like Peekaboo Beans, Fig Kids, Joey Tote slings and Babylicious. But the opening of Little Earth in the 2600 block of East Hastings (right next to Pomegranate Community Midwives) this past July has changed all that.
Conceived (sorry, we couldn’t resist) by local mums Mariska McLean and Flavia Spano, eco-friendly Little Earth supports local and Canadian designers, has a selection of organic clothes, carries wooden toys, and offers a 50/50 split between new and consignment stock.
Flying out the door are vintage kids’ concert tees from Rocking the Cradle. We liked the (well-priced) puzzles and toys from Mudpuppy, and picked up some Bugalug Barrettes that actually stayed in wispy toddler hair. And now that fall’s sort of here, it may be time to stock up on new designs from BabyLegs which keep little ones’ legs warm in carriers and on other occasions when their pants ride up.
What we love most about businesses by and for mums are their practicality and Little Earth didn’t let us down. They have a cosy, clean, nursing/diaper changing/changing room in the back. Mums can try stuff on their tots and themselves without worrying about junior whipping back the curtains of a too-small changing room to expose all to the world. And changing your baby on a proper change table that’s not in a grotty bathroom has a lot to recommend it. The requisite kids’ play area was also great.
Now the Little Earth and Pomegranate Community Midwives are making the block family friendly we can’t wait to see what comes next.
