Burnaby Village Carousel

Since it’s the last long weekend of summer (sigh!) and it’s supposed to nice at least part of the time, we thought we’d do something a little different this weekend and bring you events that involve going a little bit farther afield to help you see the summer (that sort of wasn’t) out with a bang!

Funland at Cultus Lake
10 am – 5 pm, across from Cultus Lake Waterpark – 4150 Columbia Valley Highway
Pack everyone up for a bit of a roadtrip with a lot of fun at the end. For a $7.50 admission fee (under twos are free) kids can partake of paddle boating, train rides, mini-golf, an interactive maze and a giant ball room. Just think how all that’ll tire them out…

BC Sardine Festival
Saturday, September 1st, 11 am – 4 pm, Steveston Harbour Authority Fisherman’s Park (Moncton & 3rd Avenue)
Sardines are packed with Omega-3s, but your kids don’t need to know that. All they need to know is that there are special kids’ activities and live entertainment. For parents there are cooking demos, product samples and you can buy freshly caught sardines on the docks.

Labour Day Fall Fair at the Burnaby Lake Museum
Monday, September 3rd, 11 am – 4:30 pm, 6501 Deer Lake Avenue
This old-fashioned fall fair has everything kids have come to expect from fairs, including face painting and a parade. Plus there’s a scavenger hunt, free rides on their classic carousel, vaudeville theatre, and baking and preserves.

AfricaDey 2007
Saturday & Sunday, September 1st & 2nd, Croation Cultural Centre, 3250 Commerical
This free all-day festival celebrates local African/Canadian music and culture and is a bit closer to home. There’s a great marketplace you can browse, dance and drum workshops, storytelling and live performances. Plus there’s a children’s village with music, face painting and interactive educational games.

yoyomama will be on CityTV’s Breakfast Television tomorrow at 9:36 am, so if you’re near a TV be sure to tune in!

For the last few days of summer kids can get crafty daily at the Granville Island’s Kids Market. There’s ceramic painting on the main floor and Craft Works on the second floor at the Adventure Zone.
