As you know, here at yoyomama we believe that while children’s music has its place in your life, grown up music does too. But what about the radio? Before kids the radio was our own personal background music. We’re the first to admit that unless you get ‘em while they’re young, few little ones can tolerate the radio for very long, so what’s a mum to do if she wants a dose of arts & culture, or just plain old pop rock?
Why not consider podcasts? A certain culturally-minded mum we know downloads As it Happens to her iPod and listens to it when she goes for a run. Here’s a handy little podcast primer:
What’s a podcast? A radio show (or audio or video show) that you can listen to on your computer or your iPod where and when it’s convenient for you.
Where do you find these elusive podcasts? We’re CBC geeks here at yoyomama, so we always recommend them as a good place to start and iTunes has good getting started tips and a huge list list that is searchable by categories like Entertainment, Comedy and Politics.
So cast your net for podcasts that are an antidote to your current daily soundtrack. Besides, when you tell people you’re a pod person they’ll think you’re really au courant, because you need to be able to fool some of the people some of the time…

New today on our list of things to do around town that aren’t affected by the strike:
Have you considered using your recycling for fun? One mama we know wrote in with a great idea. They dug around in their (very full) recycling bins and found a large box which they transformed into a race car with the help of lots of duct tape, an ice cream bucket lid, plastic drinking cups and other imaginative odds and ends. Since then the race car has been transformed into a house, a spaceship and a boat. . .
Since it’s supposed to be (a bit) sunny for the rest of this week, what about a trip to La Casa International Ice Cream for ice cream in every flavour under the sun, and some that perhaps shouldn’t be. With 218 flavours on location at all times you’re bound to find something to tempt the pickiest palate and choosing your poison should kill quite a bit of time. La Casa Gelato, 1033 Venables Street
