Joe Fresh Kids

We’ve dubbed the week of August 20th, “Back to Preschool Week” here at yoyomama, and it’ll be chock-a-block with tips and ideas for getting your little one ready for the transition to preschool or kindergarten. But we couldn’t sit on this until then. This month, Joe Fresh Style, which sells men and womens’ wear at Superstore, is introducing their inaugural children’s collection, Joe Fresh Style Kids.

The Joe Fresh line is designed by Joseph Mimran, who founded Club Monaco and Caban and prides itself on offering stylish, affordable clothes. Their Kids line meets those standards. With prices ranging from $4 – $39, an organic line for babes, and clothes for newborns all the way up to size 14, you’ll find staples from sleep bags to shoes for every kid’s fall wardrobe.

While not officially in stores until August 16th, our scouts have seen at least some of the Joe Fresh Kids Oxfordcollection on Superstore shelves and rumour has it that it’s selling fast. For girls we’re coveting the Jackie-O Jacket ($12) for the under two set, and the Sweet Treat Dress ($16) for preschoolers. For boys we think the Baby Oxford ($10) is very manly (in a less than 24-month-old kind of way), while the Mini-Marathon Track Jacket ($14) is a great layering piece for active little boys. Plus it’ll be easier to bear spit up and stains on onesies that only set you back $4. We just hope they expand their organic line to include older kids.

starNew today on our list of things to do around town that aren’t affected by the strike:

Capilano Suspension Bridge – the admission fee is steep at about $28 but did you know two things – 5 & unders are free and BC residents can bring their admission receipt to customer service (just inside the gates) and get a one year pass! The pass also gives you a discount at the restaurants and the gift shop. I’ve had a pass for the last three years and my kids love going there – the big suspension bridge, the treetops adventure (8 smaller suspension bridges in the trees), the cliff walk, the fish ponds, the hourly entertainment (excellent little singing groups), and the artists onsite – make it a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. It’s fun in the sun but also very pleasant in the rain. Also, it’s beautiful at Christmas with the seasonal light display. I probably take my kids once every few months or so and we always have a good time: www.capbridge.com. Thanks to yoyomama reader Ellen for this great tip.

And good news for those of us whose tots like to cool off in the spray – in addition to Granville Island, the following spray parks are now all open: Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park, McLean Park, Hastings Park, Harbour Green Park at Coal Harbour, Chaldecott Park: www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/Parks/services.htm

And if you were tempted by our article on family yoga, on Saturday Morning Little Tree offers family yoga at 9 am and YogaKids for three and ups at 10 am. Both classes are at Unity Yoga and Teahouse.

And she told two friends and so on, and so on, and so on. . .

When you subscribe to yoyomama in August you’ll be entered to win a great selection of books from Random House. Green mamas will want, Ecoholic, a guide to the most environmentally friendly information, products and services in Canada. We’re guessing most mamas could use Whining & Dining, which offers mealtime survival tips for parents of picky eaters and Healthy Mum, Happy Baby which is all about feeding and taking care of yourself while breastfeeding your baby. And the list wouldn’t be complete without something for the little ones, Cock-A-Doodle Quack Quack, a funny, noisy quack along story.

Want to win but already a subscriber? Every time you use the forward link at the bottom of each daily email to spread the word about yoyomama you’ll get your name in the hat!
