Let’s face it, the daily grind of thinking what to make for dinner, making sure you’ve got the ingredients, prepping it during nap time and then finding time to whip it up while entertaining your little ones can get just a little wearing (or relentless as one mama we know aptly puts it). And if you’re trying to think locally, fresh and organic you’ve just added a whole new layer of stress, which is where the good folks at Indishpensable come into play.

Indishpensable lets you (re)discover the joy of cooking, without the extra work sourcing recipes and finding and preparing ingredients. They have complete, healthy meals pre-assembled and ready for pick-up in their ready-to-go coolers, or you can stop by and put together a fresh meal yourself. They’re like the ultimate sous-chef – they research and test recipes, find local, seasonal and fresh ingredients and then prep it all for you, right down to sauces made fresh in the Indish kitchen.

Indishpensable meals are meant to be eaten fresh, within a few days of getting them from the dishy source, which means we’ll be adding their new store on Arbutus at 12th into our regular commute. Some tempting meals we’d like to stock our fridge with:

  • BC Free Range Chicken Peri Peri with grilled flatbread, salsa and corn on the cob with smokey orange mayo;
  • Mushroom Zucchini Vegetarian Lasagna accompanied by mixed greens with nectarines and blueberries in a honey mustard vinaigrette; and
  • Sake-glazed Wild BC Sockeye Salmon with peanut-sesame soba noodles and Japanese coleslaw.

With prices that are on par with take-out, how much better would you feel about eating healthy, fresh, local food that just needs a quick sauté or bake to be ready to eat?

Kids partyWe also like that Indishpensable is committed to helping kids learn that good food doesn’t come from boxes and vacuum-sealed packages. They have great classes for kids from four to 13 to help them learn appreciation for great food, fresh ingredients and the joys of cooking.

And since the party always moves into the kitchen, why not just start it there? At Indishpensable you can have fun assembling meals with friends. Or have even more fun taking over their kitchen and creating a decadent dessert to share, or have a sushi party and see who’s best at rolling their own. You bring the tunes and they’ll supply tea, coffee or lattes, letting you be the hostess with the mostest without having to worry about getting anything organized. Now that’s the kind of party we like to throw!

    I went by Indishpensable on Saturday after work. I was very impressed by the design of the place, and how friendly the staff were. I chose the chicken Peri Peri. We cooked it up at home in 15 minutes, and the smell was amazing. My first bite of chicken I had to close my eyes and just enjoy. It was so delicious. Everything in the meal was fresh, tasty, and of the highest quality. My husband said he wants us to get food from there at least twice a week!
