What to do, what to do?

Summer’s not over yet, just look at what’s going on this weekend if you don’t believe us:

Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival
Thursday August 23rd – Sunday August 26th, Granville Island
Your nautical little ones will definitely want to hit Granville Island this weekend. Not only will there be a floating exhibit of boats, knot-tying demos, sea shanty singing, but kids always love the Kids’ Toy Boat Building behind Kids’ Market and Cats Meow Restaurant. For $2 (and with your help) your tots can design, build and launch their own boats.

Richmond’s Children’s Festival
Saturday, August 25th, 11 am – 3 pm, Minoru Park Oval, 7171 Granville Avenue
You’ll find lots of free family fun at Richmond’s only festival just for kids – there are bouncy castles, a kids only swap meet, interactive displays from Science World, music, magicians and more.

Kerrisdale Days
Thursday, August 23rd – Saturday, August 25th
Okay, so the Kerrisdale Play Palace may be closed because of the strike, but there’s still lots of fun to be had in Kerrisdale this weekend. This three-day fest culminates in birthday cake at 3 pm on Saturday to celebrate one of Vancouver’s oldest communities. You can go for a ride in a Horse and Carriage, listen to live music, get your face painted, watch jugglers, ride down a giant slide, and, of course, there’ll be no shortage of balloons…

Loaves of Love
Saturday, August 25th, 9 am – 4 pm, Panne e Formaggio, 4532 W. 10th Avenue
Panne e Formaggio is celebrating their 6th anniversary with treats for the kids, anniversary cake for all, plus their annual Loaves of Love event where they “raise dough” for the B.C. Children’s Hospital. 100% of all donations go to the hospital, and when you donate $3 or more you get a loaf of bread.

starNew today on our list of things to do around town that aren’t affected by the strike:

Today the Lower Mainland’s first ever H&M (finally!) opens in Coquitlam Centre, which we think calls for a little road trip. Ostensibly to stock up on great kids clothes at great prices, but we see no reason not to spend a little time looking for yourself. If you can wait, H&M will also be opening in the space deserted by Holt Renfrew next spring.

Older kids may enjoy a double decker bus tour of Vancouver, especially as they can hop on and off at will to explore their favourite sections of the city more.
