We’re fans of Dandelion Kids on Commercial Drive. Their clothes tend towards organic, their toys towards fair trade and their window displays are fabulous. Once inside, the more you look the more you want to buy. But like anything with kids, getting there isn’t always half the fun, in fact sometimes it’s twice the hassle. So if you prefer to stock up for birthdays and special occasions from the comfort of your own home, in your pajamas, and without anyone “helping” you, then check out their recently revamped website which offers secure online shopping whenever it’s convenient for you.
Rock me

Is it only us for whom the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company is a new find? Sure we’ve eyed their set up in the space previously occupied by the original Bread Garden in Kits, but who knew about their great kid’s play area, kid’s menu that offers simple versions of the menu favourites and their family nights. Hopefully not everyone but us, because we think this is a find worth sharing.

We’re taking it outside this weekend with lots of fun at West Point Grey’s annual Sandcastle competition, a summer train spectacular that little train enthusiasts won’t want to miss, the opening of Vancouver’s newest farmer’s market in Kits and an online sale on summer clothes for kids. We love summer!

“It must be teething.” That’s what you always hear when you tell someone your tiny tot is fussy, unhappy, and waking at night. Frankly, the cause is usually a mystery, but when it is teething we’ll turn to almost anything to dull the misery, theirs and ours. Our first line of defense against teething pain is Bug & Pickle’s Teething Oil, it calms our wee ones down immediately.
Mocktail party

Summer cocktail season’s in full swing and somehow ordering yet another cranberry & soda just isn’t cutting it. For those of us who are abstaining because of gestating, lactating or too much celebrating there’s no reason to limit yourself to non-alcoholic standbys, instead, why not bust out a little with exotic mocktails?
Worn again

Buying consignment clothes for your kids isn’t just good for your pocketbook, it’s good for the environment as well. You’re not only reducing your spending but you’re reusing and recycling. It’s also a great way to guarantee your child won’t be wearing the same outfit as all their playmates – instead you’ll set them up as a vintage trendsetter.
An Emma by any other name. . .

You lean towards shopping locally. You’re making a stab at eating locally. But will you name your child locally? Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you burden your tiny babe with the moniker Pacific or Gray Rainy Summer, we’re just thinking you might want to compare the choice you’re about to make against the BC Vital Statistics Agency’s list of most popular baby names.
What’s going on?

Last weekend was all about busting out at birthday parties for our fair country, this weekend is a little more mellow, but there’s still lots going on. Celebrate 100 years of South Granville shopping, stock up on plants and sustainability, do a bit of sample sale shopping for you and your kidlets and Island mamas can go organic.
The skin they’re in
Last week we covered the skin you’re in, and this week we have some suggestions for organic products to add into your baby’s beauty regime. We’ve done some testing and settled on a few favourite lines in a few different price ranges including Earth’s Best Organic Baby Care, Weleda Baby Care and Little Twig.
