What’s going on?
Last weekend was all about busting out at birthday parties for our fair country, this weekend is a little more mellow, but there’s still lots going on:
South Granville Centennial Celebration
Saturday, July 7th, 11 am – 5 pm, from the Granville Street Bridge to 16th Avenue
How will you decide between centennial cake and ice cream, gourmet hot dogs, face painters, balloon artists, a Birthday Hat factory, and a kid’s colouring contest at this event celebrating 100 years of South Granville fabulousness? And then there are all the sidewalk sales. How much can you cram in before naptime? Let’s hope it’s sunny! More details on their website: www.southgranville.org
Open House & Plant Sale, Strathcona & Cottonwood Community Gardens
Sunday, July 8th, 10 am – 2 pm, Strathcona Park, corner of Prior & Hawks
A great example of inner-city sustainability the Strathcona and Cottonwood Community Gardens are the largest of their kind in Canada so their huge plant sale is not to be missed. You’ll find more than plants here. Festivities include live music, a compost workshop and, of course, kid’s activities. Another great way to start getting your kids intrigued in growing their own (food we mean). For more details call Jill at 604.608.0384 or email her at: jg3weiss@smartt.com
Sample Sale-ing

Friday, June 6th, 4 pm – 9 pm & Saturday, June 7th, 10 am – 5 pm, #306 – 128 West 6th Avenue
Nanna’s selling off all remaining 2007 Spring & Summer clothing and handbags for 50 -75% off. And for those of you coveting a Nanna Diaper bag, they’ve promised there will be a few at 50% off, but get there early as they’ll go fast. More details on their website: www.nanna.ca/whatsnew.htm
&
Cherry Blossom
Sunday, July 8th, 10 am – 4 pm, 195 East 26th Ave (at Main St)
At Cherry Blossom’s annual sample sale summer stock (in sizes from XS to XL) will be reduced by 50 – 85% and they’ll have kid’s T-shirts on sale too. More details are on their website: www.cherryblossomdesign.ca
Island Organics Festival
July 7th & 8th, 10 am – 5 pm, Glendale Gardens, 505 Quayle Road, West Saanich
We’ve heard that some of you Island mamas are feeling a little left out, so here’s a great event for you. Your little ones can channel their inner master gardeners and learn about the role wriggling worms play in your compost, plant a bean, get their faces painted and more. yoyomama reader Julia sent in details about another free family event this weekend:

They will have 2 shows, one at 2:30 and one at 4:30. There will also be face painting, bubbles and a craft area for the kids to create their own crown.
