The Sylvia Hotel

A restaurant doesn’t have to be billed as family-friendly to actually be family-friendly. That’s what a group of local mums found when they started to haunt the Sylvia Hotel’s restaurant with their newborn babes. The location lends itself to a stroll on the seawall with tots in tow followed by a meal watching the West End world go by. Plus the hotel’s character and hint of old-world (as opposed to ye olde worlde) charm takes you back to the days when the Sylvia daringly opened Vancouver’s first cocktail bar.

The Sylvia is also an unexpected and hassle-free venue for baby showers and Heather, their Food and Beverage Director, is genius at getting everything organized.

The more literary mamas among us will want to flaunt their knowledge of the famous Sylvia Hotel cat, Mr. Got To Go. He was a stray who sought shelter from a storm at the Sylvia one day and despite the manager’s best efforts, never left. He also inspired two children’s books, which are for sale at the hotel (of course!).

Oh yeah, the best thing? There’s free parking behind the hotel, and how many downtown venues can make that claim?
