Canadian Flag

How are you going to celebrate the 140th Birthday of our country this weekend? There’s always the mother of all Canada Day celebrations, Canada Day at Canada Place where there’s truly something for everyone, but there’s also lots more going on around town:

Canada Day at Mount Pleasant Pool
Sunday, July 1st, 12 pm – 2 pm
Not just free swimming, but bouncy castles (yup, that’s plural), arts and crafts, a barbeque, face painting and more. For full details visit their website: www.city.vancouver.bc.ca and click here for the Park Board’s listing of all the (free) Canada Day events happening at Vancouver’s Community Centres.

Canada Day at Granville Island
Sunday, July 1st, all day
There’s way too much to cover here, but suffice it to say that family fun includes a graceful ballet put on by the False Creek Ferries, disco dancing, face painting and lots more for kids centered around the False Creek Community Centre. For full details visit their website: www.granvilleisland.com

Canada Day Picnic at Locarno Beach

July 1st, 12 pm – 3 pm
Sure there will be food, bevies, clowns and more courtesy at the Vancouver Quadra Association’s Annual Canada Picnic, but we’re guessing the Solar Power Roadshow tent will be the big draw. Hop aboard the tailgate of the world’s first Revived Battery Electric Pickup, build a solar oven, play with sticky bubbles from a solar-powered bubble machine, and just generally go green. And for all you shopper mamas out there have you been to the Miss Coquette sale yet? There are deals galore on labels such as Majestic, Nougat, Narcissist, Sinequanone, Lauren Moffat and Dace — everything is priced at $25, $50 or $100. Miss Coquette has set up in the same space as SCOOP — 2388 West 4th Avenue — until June 30th. Shop weekdays from 10 am – 7 pm and on Saturday from 10 am@ 6 pm. Word to the wise — don’t bring the kids to this one, shop alone! For full details visit their website: www.misscoquette.com and thanks to I Love sample sales for the heads up.

The above is just a smattering of some of the fun stuff going on this weekend, why not use the comment functionality below to let other mamas know what’s happening in your neck of the woods?

We must not forget the Canada Day Celebrations at Canada Place. There are some great things to do there including fireworks. If it’s sunny, don’t forget the sunscreen!
